The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Todd Hewitt is the last boy alive, at least in his town. In a town where all the women died, Todd is the only boy left in a world of men, there are no more children. Before he turns 13, the age at which he will be considered a man, Todd is sent away with one instruction, "Warn them". Everyone can hear everyone else's "noise" or thoughts but still Todd has no idea why he is being sent away though he discovers his town is hiding an evil secret.

I listened to this story and enjoyed it for the most part. It is set in the future as mankind settles another planet occupied by aliens. The aliens were conquered and the land was settled. The theme is similar to other books that are popular right now. The world is in distress and  evil comes to power. This book is the first in a trilogy and really serves as a set up for the rest of the series which I will eventually read but was not jumping to the next book like I was with Hunger Games.

Still, this is a good read for those who like adventure with a little bit of mystery and evil.

Bitter End by Jennifer Brown

I had high hopes for this book because I really enjoyed reading the author's other book The Hate List.



Bitter End is the story of Alex, a high school senior who is looking forward to a graduation trip to Colorado with her two best friends in search of answers about her mother who died when Alex was just a young girl. Life with Bethany and Zach is great and things seem to be getting better when Alex starts dating the new jock, Cole. But Cole has a dark side and Alex's friends warn her that he is no good. Can Alex get out before the relationship spirals out of control? Or his her love for him too strong?



This book addresses domestic violence as it relates to teens and does a good job of it. The story can drag but overall the book is a good read for any one who enjoys tragic high school love stories.

Room by Emma Donoghue

This was a very disturbing but interesting book about a woman who was abducted at age 19 and kept in a shed in her abuser's backyard. The story is told through the voice of her five year old son who was born in the shed and has never seen the "outside".



You wouldn't think a story that takes place in a single room could be very exciting but I enjoyed reading this after I got used the 5 year old narrator. I did feel that the book went on a little too long and could have been wrapped up sooner, but it definitely is worth reading.

Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

I want to learn more about the French Revolution now! I downloaded the audio of this book and it was a great story to listen to. High School senior, Andy, is super depressed after the death of her younger brother and her family is falling apart. She is on the brink of flunking out of her prestigious high school and even contemplating suicide. She is forced to go to Paris with her father when her mother is put into a mental hospital. While in Paris she is on strict orders to finish her thesis. In the process she comes across a young woman's diary from the time of the French Revolution. The story alternates between Andy's contemporary life and the story of Alex, who cared for Louis Charles, the young lost King, in the time of the Revolution. The story is a historical mystery that kept me wanting to know what happened next. Definitely a must read!

This was a very fast pace book that kept me on the edge of my seat. 14 yr. old Ty has a secret. As a witness to a murder everyone wants to know his secret. After agreeing to testify Ty and his mother are threatened and put into the witness protection program. Now Ty has to change the way he looks, the way he acts, and even the way he thinks to avoid being discovered. But can he put the past behind him. Can he continue to keep his secret as he continues to put other people in danger. This was a great book and I can't wait for the sequel to see how it all turns out.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

I thought this was a good story and definitely a book that teenage boys may be attracted too. It is the story of Junior, a Spokane Indian who leaves the reservation to attend the local white school. He becomes an outcast among his tribe members and struggles to fit in with his new classmates. The book does have some pretty strong language and alcohol abuse but I think thats what adds to its authenticity. Also, people have complained about the Native Americans in this book being portrayed negatively. However, the author draws from many of his own experiences as a Spokane Indian and that is important to know before judging this book. It was a good book to listen and had all the elements. It made me laugh but it also tackled some tough topics such as death, but it the end it made me feel hopeful and curious to know how Junior's life turns out.

SLAM by Nick Hornby

Slam by Nick Hornby

This was a great book to listen to once I got past the British accent and slang. I think that it presents the topic of teenage pregnancy in a realistic and honest way. Sam was a regular teenage boy who made one mistake that changed the rest of his life. I really felt like I got to know Sam and it was interesting to hear a boy's point of view in this situation.
